Before starting to work on the search panel i wanted to code the rating function so i could implement it directly to the search panel and also because i knew it would be time consuming and a big headache to choose a weight for each attribute of each position.
Basically i chose a rating from 0 to 100 and 200 for the key attributes like finishing, off the ball, ... for a striker for example. I think it's pretty accurate for both rating and potential rating and i am impatient to implement it to the search panel to see if it's easier to find the future Stars.

Yes you guess right. For translation all languages possible. My only exigency is to exactly match FM terms when possible, like attributes for example. It's too soon for me to talk about but yes you (and anyone interested) can send me a mail with which language you can translate so i add you to my list. Actually i only received a proposition for Chinese translation.

Ive been using your Mini-SE for a while, even the latest 1.4. And its has been no problem, until now. Dont know why, but the Mini-SE suddenly wont start, and I get this error message:

Im on a XP, and got SP2. The stranges thing is that it has worked. I have used it for several months. But when I found out that I could alter the attributes and abilites and such.. It was after that the Mini-SE crashes on startup... Hmmm. Some one else on an another forum had the same problem.
The edit function only have privileges to read and write FM memory on runtime. So it can't cause any harm nor to Mini, FM or your computer. The only damage it could do is wipe your current game if you edit while not being on a player profile ans save. Have you tried to redownload Mini to see?

I have googled it.. and it seems like a .Net-problem. But when uninnstalling and reinnstalling .Net.. and I still get the same error-message. I have even tried .net 2.0 and 3.5.
Could reinnstalling FM do the trick?

Yes you can try 3.5 is backward compatible. Also you can instaal sp1 for 2.0 & 3.0.

For the player rating system. You could use these FM-Britain forum posts to choose the weights for the different attributes according to positsion.

You need to register at the forum, but I can tell you that those reviews are pretty thorough and you could benefit from them.
Otherwise, I love what you have done with the program and I am eagerly anticipating the 1.5 version. If you can make the ratings system work and improve the search, then Mini-SE will be miles better than Genie Scout.
I don't know. I added more exception handlers in 1.5 so maybe the error will be catched and ignored. Maybe not.

i would say wrong patch installed
make sure your version is 8.0.2 118048. Also have you installed .net 2.0?

@Santex, that patch listed on that site is the buggy one, you want the one that was released on 20/02/08. Although this won't fix your Mini-SE issues.

Just think about why we use scout tools:1. To find cheap players of potential; 2. To find cheap players of high quality. 3. To loan high quality players
So sale value, wage, rating, Loanable or not, are always most important, please addd thise filters.

Sorry about the whining, but I'm having difficulties with the Microsoft .NET Framwork - The Miniscout crashes and I saw that this problem was said to be associated with .NET Framework 2.0 not being setup.

@anonymous: if it crash instantly on startup then yes it's a net problem. Try to reinstall .net If it crash later check you have the right patch.

If genie is working fine for you, when bother getting this one micky? and yes the early beta versions if you are lucky work for a while, but can also corrupt your save game so make sure to keep backups!

Mx you might have noticed (if having visited the genie site) how impatient an FM gamer can be - especially when there is little time for gaming per week (scouting takes so much time...).
And, ofcourse, the level of praise for a scout's creator raises in a geometric ratio. So far you are praised - if you deliver a more sophisticated search engine, we might even build a shrine for you...:)

hmmm that's interesting, but some players have a decent ca, say 150, and some medium atributes ranging from 12 to 15 and don't perform very well. i think it's about the combination of atributes with the tactics. could be wrong tough.
@diego I tried other scout tool have ratings. And it had an ca part for rating coefficent. (Default no effect - but i made 50) It had a real differnce specially for people have less ability but more attributes. (Some lesser known countries.In asia withaout adding ability not giving right answer.)

About future versions, I hope we can have more options to filter the players. I always like to filter away (with genie scout) the players with very high inj rating, also those players with lower initial consistency & important match. (Why signing players who always get injured? remember Harry Kewell of LFC??)
If that is not possible, another way can be setting up a "multiplier" option in the rating. This multiplier can be adjust by individual user (just add another rating tab page called "multipler", which can be adjust by user). The whole think was that the new rating = the old rating times the multiplier. (e.g. if a player has inj 15, consistency 10, professional 5, and the corresponding rating set by user is -80, 5, 15, then the multiplier would be ((1-15/20)*(0.8)+(10/20)*(0.05)+(5/20)*(0.15))/(0.8+0.05+0.15).
(I hope you can understand what I am trying to say. The implementation for -ve rating would not be as straight forward as before, i.e. -ve rating = 1 - attribute/20 *rating )

and by the way, the numbers in the attribute panel is too big thus doesnt align properly to the text, i.e. the height of 12 rows for text = the height of 11 rows for number. Is it the problem for my computer only? Thx for your attention!
HK LFC Fans i get your point and the rating function is already using a multiplier depending on the position note, calculation is pretty same as yours. Why not for the attributes but it would be confusing for the user i think. Btw can you send me a screenshot of the attributes panel? thx

it wont let me search, im in 2010 and the search just shows up empty, no errors or anything. tried the other exe and it didnt work. using vista sp1, could that be the problem?
